Description

When I was little I remember sitting on the five inch thick roots of the twenty foot tall trees that extended down to the approximate two and a half foot deep stream that ran for about three miles. Diagonal across the not so busy neighborhood road, west headed, next to both the trails I walked down get to and from school.

After school sometimes I would take my socks and shoes off, and sit on the raw uncovered wood dangling in front of that stream, then dip my legs in. No fish were in that water, even though how opaque the water was, you could always tell it was not a supportive little strip of water, but a barren, lonesome, polluted one.

She and I didn't care. The girl whom I had met in third grade and gave me candy every day. We'd play by the stream and find old broken halves of flip phones in the water, and other interesting novelties. We'd stick branches of trees into the water to see how deep it was, and drink the water of it that seemed clean enough.

---

Today I went to the stream again.

I relived those days I once had, not of a simple life, but of a much more imaginative one and remembered my theories about the water. How the red reflective light at the bottom of it would stay there no matter how much I poked at it with a stick, and believed it to be a creature looking at me from the bottom. The odd metal plates at the bottom that I assumed were parts of a sunken car. The deepest part of the stream was around the least forested part of it near where it transitions trails. I always imagined what was in there. Huge fish looking up at me and circulating around the roots that extended all the way down maybe? Some other treasures once lost by others, awaiting me?

Thinking about it made just about everything rush back. Almost my whole childhood was spent near that stream, after and before school, walking to and from. Sometimes without that girl, most of the time with. I still felt so attached to that stream, I remember the Winters and Falls walking aside it.

Why must we be so much more creative when we are little, and just let it slip away so easily.

woah! interesting piece. first of all, i really like the composition- it's not every day you see a drawing in which the viewer's attention is drawn downwards. most of the time it is sent to the left or right. i like the way you drew the fire, though i'm not really sure why it's there. the colour palette is great- interesting change given some of your more vibrant drawings. it works. the only thing i would recommend is polishing up the sketch-like lineart, though that's really only a personal preference.

on the story itself- nicely written! very detailed and described in a way that makes me reminisce about your childhood along with you. a few errors, for example:

"Why must we be so much more creative when we are little, and just let it slip away so easily."
you need a question mark at the end, not a period

"I still felt so attached to that stream, I remember the Winters and Falls walking aside it."
*winters, falls

but nothing too major. i would like to see more of your writing, if you have anything to show.

overall, great job! <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/t/w/t…" alt=":icontwilightclapplz:" title="TwilightClapPlz" />
